Divemasters Boone Fischer and Emily Durand can’t seem to stay in one place for very long. Here are some of the places they’ve been to on their journeys.
Deep Shadow: Bonaire, Aves de Sotavento, Sint Maarten, Saba
Deep Cut: Saba, Statia (Sint Eustatius)
Deep Roots: Belize (Caye Caulker & Ambergris Caye)
Deep Devil: Cozumel and Grand Cayman
Location of Rock Beauty Divers. The actual location in Bonaire is an industrial lot, next to Hamlet Oasis.
The famous (or infamous) Saba Landing, as viewed from the cockpit of a WinAir Twin Otter. Shortest commercial runway in the Western Hemisphere.
Willemstoren Lighthouse on the southern tip of Bonaire. Deep Shadow begins on this spot. (without the author’s photo-bomb) This spot is listed as a shore dive but the currents here make this inadvisable 99% of the time.

The Bottom, Saba’s capital. All buildings on Saba must have red roofs and white walls. Sid and Sophie live down here.

The sequel to Deep Cut is coming soon. Nick hasn’t officially announced where Boone and Emily find themselves… but the first person who correctly guesses where this is will get a signed copy of the book. (Oops… that’s a hint!)
Where are they from?
Boone Fischer grew up in Kingston, Tennessee. His mother was born there and his father was a Dutch sailor she met during a vacation in Aruba. After a brief marriage ended in divorce, Boone’s father returned to the Netherlands, leaving his mother to raise him. Working summers as a diver for the Gatlinburg Aquarium in Tennessee led him to dive mastering and he soon found himself in Curaçao and Bonaire.
Emily Durand was born and raised in South London, growing up on the border of Greenwich and Deptford, south of the Thames. After a stint at university, she took up dive mastering and met Boone on the island of Bonaire.
